Work & Career Issues
When counseling on career changes and challenges, we can speak from personal experience.
There is a tendency to think that therapy is strictly for personal matters, not for our professional lives. This ignores the fact that our ‘persons’ spend the majority our waking hours at work. And that our work often follows us home in one form or another, this despite the fact that we are often asked to keep our “personal lives” out of the office.
While the rigid barriers that once separated home from office, and work from personal life, are beginning to soften, this can also present its own set of challenges. You may also have experienced that relationships at work can be just as frustrating – or seen another way – just as ripe with opportunities to learn and grow as any love relationship.
Navigating career changes can leave us feeling confused and vulnerable. Which way forward? Let’s chat!
Living in Alignment. Finally, there is often the question of whether you find your work meaningful and gratifying. Perhaps you are searching for greater alignment between what you value and how you make a living. No matter where you are at in your career, whether you are just starting out, or contemplating a second or “encore” career, we would be honored to accompany you.
Values-based Decision-making. This is a valuable approach to work and career issues. We start by identifying your personal values, strengths and ideals. Then we look for ways to create alignment between your work and your values, strengths and ideals. The solutions can be as subtle as a change in attitude, or as dramatic as changing jobs. Or, you may learn behavioral skills to create the alignment you need to be happy.
Additional Tools. We have various certifications for utilizing a variety of assessments and leadership training tools, including those from StrengthsFinder (Clifton StrengthsFinder) and Lomiger International, a Korn Ferry company.
It’s time to get help when you feel:
Confused or filled with doubt about where to take your life, education, or career.
Longing for something more meaningful, exciting, gratifying or just plain different.
Burnout and exhaustion from work/life imbalance.
Vulnerable when you’re trying to navigate new career situations such as recently graduated, recently transferred to a new city, or recently let go or fired.
