More About Hester Campbell

Hester Campbell is a Licensed Professional Counselor who provides trauma-informed and client-centered psychotherapy services.

Hester obtained her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regis University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Mary Washington. She is EMDR trained and is in the process of becoming EMDR Certified. She is trained to treat OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention, through training at the Modern Therapist Training Collective and under direct supervision from Carla D’Agostino-Vigil, Clinical Director at Ignite. Hester is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and provides clinical supervision to the students at Ignite’s Internship program.

Hester has experience treating those struggling with substance use and who have experienced trauma. Hester believes in using a strengths-based approach to help empower clients to achieve their goals and make significant, positive changes in their lives. Hester partners with clients to help them heal from raw emotional pain, recognize their inner strengths, and build resiliency in the face of life’s biggest challenges.

Hester believes in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship and therefore leads with non-judgment, compassion, and understanding when working with clients. She strives to create a safe space in order for clients to feel comfortable to fully step into their healing process.  She supports the unique needs of her clients by drawing from a variety of theoretical orientations and interventions, including, but not limited to, Acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy and person-centered therapy. She also has specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Hester is adept in teaching and offering a variety of coping skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, self-compassion, grounding and more.

Hester gravitates toward feminist therapy because she believes it’s important to examine the ways in which the identities we hold interact with the world we live in. Research shows that the more oppressed identities one holds in society the more violence, trauma, and self erosion one will be subjected to. Hester guides clients to reclaim their power and is also passionate about working with those who identify as LGBTQ+ and people of various cultural backgrounds.

Hester believes in the healing power of relationship and understands that many of our wounds occur within the context of relationships. Hester aims to create a safe space with her clients where they feel accepted so they can move into the deep, healing work they’ve been needing. Hester works collaboratively with clients as she believes you know yourself best and that feedback is essential for the therapeutic process to work.

Prior to her work at Ignite, Hester worked in different treatment centers providing group and individual therapy for those struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues.

When Hester is not working, you can most likely find her scrapbooking and crafting, hiking, gardening or on walks with her two dogs. Otherwise she is spending time with her partner reading or watching Netflix and cuddling with their dogs and cats.
