Understanding Substance Use and Finding the Right Level of Care
Not Sure What Kind of Help You Need? Let’s Figure It Out Together.
Substance use doesn’t always look like it does in the media. It can be subtle, situational, or something you've been managing quietly — until it starts to affect your well-being.
At Ignite Counseling Colorado, we know how hard it can be to reach out, especially when you’re unsure what level of care you need. That’s why we created this guide — to help you explore your options without pressure, shame, or judgment.
What Are the Levels of Care?
Not every situation calls for inpatient treatment — and not every issue can be handled by once-a-week therapy. Here’s a quick overview of common care levels:
Detox or Withdrawal Management – for safely stopping use when medical symptoms are present
Residential/Inpatient Treatment – 24/7 care for those needing stabilization and structure
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) – intensive daytime therapy, home at night
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – therapy 3–5 days/week while maintaining everyday life
Outpatient Therapy (that's us) – weekly or biweekly therapy for mild to moderate support needs
Self-Assessment: Is Outpatient Therapy Right for You?
This quick self-check is designed to help you reflect — no scoring, no diagnosis, just a helpful starting point.
